Adam Lowry, Chance Lund and Ryon Moser scored first period goals for the Broncos and they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes and cruised to the victory from there.
"30 seconds into the game, we had a power-play and I don't think we seized the moment at all," said Brandon coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk on CKLQ's post-game show, "Then, they go down and score on their power-play opportunity. I think it was the tide that they gained the momentum and played with the confidence and we just don't have any right now. We don't have the confidence to push back, any resiliency at all."
It was the second straight lopsided loss on home-ice for Brandon, with the club outscored 11-1 in their last two home games including 7-0 in the first period.
Overall, Brandon has been outscored 45-23 in the first period this season.
"I think our decision process, we're putting ourselves in bad situations," added Gylywoychuk, "We're holding onto the puck too long, we're squeezing our sticks and you can see it in the offensive zone where we're not firing pucks on net when we have a chance to shoot. I just think it goes back to the confidence thing."
John Quenneville scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings, a consolation marker early in the third period with the club already trailing 5-0.
"Lately, we've been getting down on ourselves I guess," said Quennville, "They score a couple of quick goals and there it goes. It feels like we quit, and that's the truth."
Corbin Boes stopped 26 shots in the Brandon net while Eetu Laurikainen stopped 24 shots in goal for Swift Current.
The loss was the Wheat Kings' fourth in a row and eighth in nine games and leaves Brandon in 11th-place in the Eastern Conference with a 10-15-2-1 record.
