Wheat Kings Set for Bantam Draft

Wheat Kings' GM Kelly McCrimmon will be
at the podium for the fourth overall pick in the
2013 WHL Bantam Draft
The Brandon Wheat Kings will forecast their future later this week in Calgary -- the site of Thursday's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Wheat Kings' GM Kelly McCrimmon guested on CKLQ's Monday Sports Talk this week and suggested that the talent available in this year's crop compares to the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

The top four picks went on to become National Hockey League first selections in Derrick Pouliot, Morgan Rielly, Griffin Reinhart and Matt Dumba.

"The top of the draft, in my opinion, has never been better than it is this year," said McCrimmon. "When I look at the top end of this year's bantam draft, I really see players that I think are going to be star players. There's a group of players, that anyone of those guys could be the #1 pick on any given year. For the Wheat Kings, it's a real fortunate position for us to be drafting as high as we are and we do think we'll be able to add a tremendous player to our organization."

Brandon will pick three of the top 25 players, starting with the fourth overall selection.

Alberta's Tyler Benson and Kale Clague are expected to be the top two picks and it's quite likely the Wheat Kings' pick at #4 will come down to a pair of forwards in Winnipeg product Nolan Patrick and Sherwood Park's Sam Steel.

The Wheat Kings also have the 17th overall pick from the Michael Ferland trade with Saskatoon and the third pick of the second round, 25th overall.
