Jens Meilleur, John Quenneville and Tyler Coulter scored second period goals for the Wheat Kings to give them a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes before Regina stormed back wtih three unanswered third period goals to send the game to overtime.
"Obviously, it's nice to get the win but it's really disappointing to give up a point to a team that's so close to us in the race right now," said Quenneville on CKLQ's post-game show, "We were getting the pucks out really fast on the breakout and I think that's one of the things we do really well as a team. As you saw in the third period, we made some bad defensive mistakes and it cost us."
Brandon's power-play had been largely ineffective in regular, going 0-for-4 including a 5-on-3 opportunity, but got the key goal with the man advantage at a crucial time.
"Ryan (Pulock) brought the puck up with a lot of speed. They did a pretty good job of deflecting him to the outside but we were able to get the puck to the front of the net," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "Richard didn't have a lot of work with, on his backhand, time running out on a puck that was bouncing and rolling but he got enough on it to give us the win."
Jordan Papirny made 31 saves in the Brandon net as the Wheat Kings improved to 7-1-2-0 in their last ten home games and 21-15-4-0 overall.
The victory moves Brandon, once again, into sole possession of fifth-place in the WHL's Eastern Conference standings.
