The Oil Kings took Game Three of their Eastern Conference semifinal series 5-2 on Tuesday night and grabbed a three games to none lead in the Best-of-Seven series.
Mitch Moroz's goal 5:40 into the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and Curtis Lazer extended the lead to 3-1 with a 5-on-3 power-play goal just under three minutes later.
An undisciplined roughing penalty from John Quenneville followed by a cut-and-dried delay of game penalty against Rene Hunter put the Wheat Kings down two men at a critical time in the game, and underscored a continuing problem area for Brandon in the series -- that being a lack of discipline.
"As a team, I thought we did some good things but at the end of the day, we have to be more disciplined than that," said Brandon goaltender Jordan Papirny, who made 38 saves "They have a good power-play. Our PK does a lot for us but they just found a way...we just have to be more disciplined."
Brandon had their own 5-on-3 power-play chance with about 5 1/2 minutes to play in a 3-1 game after Edmonton blueliners Griffin Reinhart and Ashton Sautner were flagged for minor penalties on the same shift but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.
"The 5-on-3 situation really made it tough for us and then, in turn, we end up with a 5-on-3 for a full two minutes," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "That's just one that where the game was at at that point, we've got to score."
Riley Kieser opened the scoring for Edmonton at 16:13 of the first period with John Quenneville tying the game for Brandon with a power-play goal 4:38 into the second period.

Quenneville's goal was Brandon's first of the series, ending the Wheat Kings' goalless streak at 147 minutes and 37 seconds.
Richard Nejezchleb had the other Brandon goal while Ashton Sautner and Luke Bertolucci scored the other goals for Edmonton, with all three of them coming after the outcome had already been decided.
Edmonton's Tristan Jarry followed up back-to-back shutouts by making 32 saves in the Edmonton net.
Chaff...Edmonton has enjoyed 23 power-play chances in the first three games of the series, scoring five power-play goals...Brandon D Ryan Pilon was handed the only fighting major and a game misconduct in a skirmish with Edmonton's Riley Kieser with 34 seonds left, which could make him a candidate for suspension from the WHL office...attendance Tuesday was 3,522...a 3-0 series deficit has only been overcome twice in WHL history, but happened just a year ago when Kelowna came back to beat Seattle in the opening round.
