Nick Buonassisi and Richard Nejezchleb also scored for the Wheat Kings as they closed to within three points of the eighth-place Warriors for the final playoff spot in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
“We started to feel it as a team, they’re starting to come together. We’re still shooting ourselves in the foot a little bit, we’re still making life difficult for ourselves in the game but I think guys are starting to see that now,” said Brandon coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk on CKLQ’s post-game show, “At least the work ethic is there, and the biggest thing we asked for from the guys is that the shots against got down and that’s something we stressed since Tuesday.”
Friday’s contest was just the second time in their last 20 games the Wheat Kings had held their opponents to less than 30 shots and their lowest shot total against since allowed 23 shots in an October 6th victory over Red Deer – the seventh game of the regular season.
“It was one of our goals. We have segments that we set goals for and that was one of the things we really wanted to do,” said Brandon goaltender Curtis Honey, “I think if we can stick to these kind of numbers, I think we’re going to have a lot more success.”
Friday’s victory also broke a seven-game losing streak against East Division opponents for the Wheat Kings.
Brandon will visit Moose Jaw on Saturday night (6:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ) before closing their pre-Christmas schedule Sunday in Prince Albert.
