Luke Siemens stopped 35 shots as the Prince Albert Raiders blanked the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-0 on Sunday night.

Brandon product Carson Perreaux and Chance Braid had a goal and an assist each for the Raiders while Corbin Boes stopped 40 shots in a losing cause for Brandon.

It was the fourth time this season the Wheat Kings had been shut out but the team did have some offensive chances, especially in the first period when they outshot the Raiders 15-9.

“In the first period, I thought we played very well, we established some things and had some chances to score and we couldn’t bear down,” said Brandon coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk on CKLQ’s post-game show, “If one of those ones would have fallen for us early...we needed something to spark us early and we didn’t get it.”

As if was, Perreaux opened the scoring with the sixth of the season at the 18:15 mark of the first period, marking the tenth straight game the Wheat Kings have surrendered the first goal and 26thtime in 36 games so far this season.

Braid made it 2-0 4:02 into the second period and Anthony Bardaro added a 4-on-3 power-play goal in the final minute of the third period to complete the scoring.

The loss leaves Brandon with a 13-19-2-2 record at the Christmas break.

It was an up-and-down first half for Brandon as they went 4-and-0 to start the season and won three of their final five games prior to the break but went 6-17-2-2 in the 27 games in between.

“We really couldn’t find a groove, we couldn’t find an avenue where we could build.  It’s a little bit of everything, we have to learn that our older guys have to lead, our older guys have to continue to get better on a game-by-game basis and can’t take a step back,” said Gylywoychuk, “Our younger guys have to come back after the Christmas break and be better than they were in the first half.”

The Wheat Kings are in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference, two points out of a playoff spot.
