- Jayce Hawryluk will return to the Wheat Kings' lineup after a one-game absence. The rookie sat out Wednesday's game for a 'school-related issue.' The Wheat Kings will sit Tyler Yaworski (suspension), Corbin Boes (knee), Tyrel Seaman (concussion) and Richard Nejezchleb (hand).
- Jordan Papirny makes his second career start in goal for Brandon. The 16-year old has been with the Wheat Kings for most of the last 20 days following Corbin Boes' injury but, from what I understand, head back home to Edmonton to finish his Alberta Midget Hockey League season after tonight's contest.
- The Kootenay Ice are one of the WHL's best teams since the Christmas break, going 17-5-1-0 in 23 games since the break. The Ice, who were 13 games under .500 at the break, are 27-28-2-0 overall and sit three points behind Lethbridge for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
- Kootenay coach Ryan McGill gave a lot of credit to Kootenay's succes in the second half to goaltender MacKenzie Skapski in our pre-game interview. Skapski, 18, is 16-4-1 with a 2.03 goals against average and .930 save percentage since the Christmas break.
- The two teams meeting tonight have the longest active streaks for making the Western Hockey League playoffs. Kootenay has made the post-season for 14 straight years while the Wheat Kings have made it for 12 consecutive seasons.
