Ryan Pulock, Nick Buonassisi and Marek Kalus scored for the Wheat Kings, who had rallied from a 3-1 second period deficit to send the game into extra time.
"It was too bad for us," said Brandon centre Tim McGauley, who had two assists in the contest, "We played real hard at the end there, we really wanted this win but, unfortunately for us, they just got the goal on us and we couldn't pull out the win for today."
Pulock opened the scoring for Brandon with a power-play marker at 15:59 of the first period, the only goal in the opening 20 minutes.
The Ice then scored three times in the first half of the second period with Brock Montgomery, Martin and Kyle O'Connor giving Kootenay a 3-1 lead before the marketing timeout.
Buonassisi's goal in the final minute of the second period, his first since January 11th, got the Wheat Kings to within one and Kalus' shorthanded marker 2:25 into the third period tied it.
McGauley's two helpers on Saturday gives him 22 points (7 G, 15 A) in 24 games since the Christmas break.
"I just got more relaxed out there. I wasn't running around like I was during the first half of the season," said McGauley about his offensive production in the second half, "I was a little more comfortable out on the ice, I'm working harder and things are just going my way in the second half."
Curtis Honey stopped 38 shots in the Brandon net while MacKenzie Skapski made 24 saves for Kootenay.
Saturday's game was the final one of a seven-game home stand for the Wheat Kings, and they finished with a 3-3-1-0 record.
Brandon now hits the road for six of their next seven games starting with Monday's tilt in Saskatoon (5:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
