Ryan Pulock |
Pulock has had plenty of exposure with Hockey Canada previously, but admits that this month's camp takes on a little more urgency because it's his final year of eligibility to play at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
"The World Junior team is one of the tournaments that every kid dreams about going to and playing on," said Pulock this week as he assisted at the Wheat Kings' Hockey School, "To be this close and get this opportunity at camp is an honour. I hope to go there, prove myself and then have a good start to the year and see what happens when Christmas comes."
This year's camp is a little different for Hockey Canada, with the players practiced at the Montreal Canadiens' practice facility on Sunday and Monday in Brossard and then heading to Lake Placid, New York for a trip of exhibition games against Finland, Sweden and the United States.
The Hockey Canada camp is the latest event in a busy summer for the Grandview, Manitoba product that has already included the NHL Draft, where he was selected 15th overall, and attending the New York Islanders' Development Camp in July.
"I was exactly sure what to expect. It's a whole new level of hockey with the pro's but I think I handled myself pretty well and that it was a good first outing for me," said Pulock, "I look forward to more. None of the top guys were around that week but I got a little bit of a feel what that next level is like."
Pulock think he picked up a few things during the week in New York that he believes he can apply at next week's Hockey Canada Development Camp.
Chaff...Winnipeg prodct Brendan Leipsic of the Portland Winterhawks is the only other Manitoban at next week's camp...in addition to Leipsic and Pulock, 12 other WHLers will attend next week's session -- G Eric Comrie (Tri-City), D Dillon Heatherington (Swift Current), D Damon Severson (Kelowna), D Josh Morrissey (Prince Albert), D Derrick Pouliot (Portland), D Morgan Rielly (Moose Jaw), D Griffin Reinhart (Edmonton), D Matthew Dumba (Red Deer), F Hunter Shinkaruk (Medicine Hat), F Nic Petan (Portland), F Sam Reinhart (Kootenay), F Curtis Lazar (Edmonton)...four players including Reilly and Griffin Reinhart will attend camp in Brossard but will not accompany the team for exhibition games in Lake Placid.
