Taylor Green |
Green is a 6-foot-7, 227 pound product of Port Coquitlam, B.C. that had two goals, seven points and 53 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Thunderbirds last season while also recording a -24 rating on a team that gave up 76 more goals that it scored in 2012-2013.
"He's got experience, he's got great size and, for us, the 1995 age group (18-year old) was an area we were looking to add a defenceman," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "When you look at our depth chart, we have Rene Hunter as a 20-year old, we've 19-year olds in Ryan Pulock, Eric Roy and Nick Walters and we just really felt we needed to get a little better depth in that age group."
Green was Seattle's second round pick, 26th overall in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and was a rookie with the T-Birds in 2012-2013.
McCrimmon says there might be some untapped potential in Green.
"He's a guy with a lot of upside and a player we thought was worth taking a chance on and giving an opportunity," said McCrimmon, "At that time, we was a guy that was highly regarded by a lot of teams and a guy, because of his size, had great potential and great upside."
Green will join Colton Waltz as a 1995-born blueliner on the Wheat Kings while Kord Pankewicz, who moved from forward to D midway through last season and barely played at the blueline position, is the other returnee for Brandon.
The Wheat Kings will open training camp on August 27th.
