An impressive performance for Nolan Patrick to close out the Brandon Wheat Kings' Rookie Camp Thursday night.
The fourth overall pick in the 2013 Bantam Draft had three goals and an assist, but his Tean Black dropped a 6-5 decision to Team White in a Prospects' Intrasquad game.Brett Kitt got the overtime winner for Team White.
Patrick is one of 53 players that will begin Wheat Kings' Main Camp Friday, and the 15-year old Winnipeg product is looking forward to the challenge of competing against Brandon's returning players.
"It's going to be really good to see how I can compete against those vets from last year," said Patrick on Thursday night, "It's going to be a faster pace so I'll have to move the puck quicker. Hopefully, things go well."
The son of former Wheat King Steve Patrick and nephew of former NHL defenceman James Patrick, Nolan won't be eligible to play in the WHL on a full-time basis until next season.
He admits he's getting plenty of advice from his dad and uncle.
"They're calling me every day, giving me tips on my game," said the 6-foot-2, 175 pound Patrick, "Before I came here, he was giving me tips on what to do and not to worry about other things, just play me game."
Patrick has already signed his standard WHL player agreement with the Wheat Kings, leaving little doubt where he wants to play and what he wants to accomplish.
"I thought I was ready, my parents thought it was the right decision so I'm looking forward to being a Wheat King," said Patrick, "I'm really happy, my dad went here so I'm trying to follow in his footsteps. I'm really proud to sign here."
The Wheat Kings couldn't be happier to have him in the fold either, especially when you consider the draft day maneuvering the club pulled off to secure his rights.
Brandon dealt forward Geordie Maguire and a third round pick to the Regina Pats, who had the second overall selection, for draft day considerations.
That was the price the Wheat Kings' paid in order for the Pats not to take Patrick with their pick.

Team White practice, 8 a.m.
Black vs. Gold scrimmage, 10:30 a.m.
Team Black practice, 5 p.m.
White vs. Gold scrimmage, 6:30 p.m.
Chaff...among the players that aren't at Wheat Kings' training camp this week is Tyrel Seaman. Seaman had spent the past three seasons with the Wheat Kings but had both the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 campaigns cut short because of concussion issues. The 19-year old appears to be moving beyond his hockey career. Listed prospets Wade Allison, Dallas Starodub, Brendan Harms, Rhett Gardner, Ryan Lindgren and Joey Anderson are also not attending. Harms, Gardner, Lindgren and Anderson have all committed to U.S. College programs...former Brandon Wheat Kings' goaltender Corbin Boes won't be on the ice when the Lethbridge Hurricanes opening training camp today. Boes had off-season surgery on his right hand and needs another 2-3 weeks to heal. The 20-year old Boes was dealt to the 'Canes at the WHL Bantam Draft on May 2nd...the sale of the WHL's Saskatoon Blades to Edmonton-based auto dealer Mike Priestner may not be as cut and dried as it appeared. Reports are a second group that includes former NHLers Rhett Warrener and Kelly Chase have matched Priestner's nine million dollar offer to purchase the team. The sale still has to be approved by the WHL's Board of Governors, with the board to meet in Calgary on Wednesday.
