Hawryluk, Canada Fall to Sweden / Calder Cup in Brandon

Canada's under-18 team fell to 1-and-1 Tuesday at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament in the Czech Republic, dropping a 4-3 decision to Sweden.

Jared McCann, Sam Bennett and Spencer Watson scored the goals for Canada while Brandon Wheat Kings' forward Jayce Hawryluk was held off the scoresheet for the second straight games.

Canada's next contest is Wednesday against Switzerland.


Meanwhile, Wheat Kings' captain Ryan Pulock will be in the lineup for Canada's national junior team Wednesday when they face Finland in the first of three exhibition games in Lake Placid, New York.

The exhibition games are part of Hockey Canada's summer development camp for the world junior team.

The Calder Cup will be in the Wheat City this Friday.

Brandon product Brett Skinner is bringing the American Hockey League's Championship trophy home for the day after helping the Grand Rapids Griffins capture the title in June.

The Calder Cup will be at Source for Sports from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday and Skinner has requested that everone coming to see the trophy brings a piece of sports equipment, gently used or new, with them.

The equipment will then be donated to KidSport.

Neepawa product Triston Grant was also a member of the Griffins, and will have his day with the Calder Cup in his hometown this Saturday (August 10).

It'll be at the Yellowhead Centre for a meet-and-greet from 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday.
