TSN's Craig Button (@CraigJButton) posted this pic of Team Canada celebrating its gold medal moments after Saturday's game ended |
Hawryluk scored Canada's second goal in the second period in their 4-0 victory over the United States in the gold medal game.
It was the first goal and point of the tournament for Hawryluk, who told me earlier in the week that he had been assigned more of a checking role with the Canadian Under-18 team.
It's Canada's sixth straight gold medal at the tournament and 18th in the 23-year history of the tournament while Hawryluk is the first Wheat King to win a gold medal at the event since Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie in 2008.
Also with international hockey Saturday, Canada's national junior team wrapped up their exhibition series in Lake Placid, New York with a 5-1 loss to the U.S.
Wheat Kings' captain Ryan Pulock did not play in Saturday's contest after suiting up for wins over Finland and Sweden earlier in the week.
Canada finished with a 2-and-1 record with Pulock having two assists in the two games he played.
