- Tanner Kaspick, the Wheat Kings' second round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, will make his WHL debut tonight. Kaspick is currently third in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League in scoring with 19 goals and 43 points in 26 games with his hometown Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings.
- F Jayce Hawryluk will sit the third and final game of is suspension tonight while D Colton Waltz (upper body), F Jesse Gabrielle (Team West, U17), F Braylon Shmyr (Team Pacific, U17) and F Duncan Campbell (healthy) are the other Brandon scratches.
- This is the fifth time in the last seven years the Wheat Kings are visiting the Oil Kings on New Year's Eve. Brandon has lost the last two, including a 6-2 setback last year in a game that saw Henrik Samuelsson have three goals and an assist.
- A big day for some former Wheat Kings. Mark Stone was recalled by the NHL's Ottawa Senators from Binghamton (AHL), Columbus recalled Ryan Craig from Springfield (AHL) for the second time in three days and Juraj Simek helped Servette (Geneva) win the Spengler Cup in Davos.
