win over Regina on Wednesday
Jayce Hawryluk's goal with 28.9 seconds left lifted the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-4 win over the Regina Pats on Wednesday night.

Hawryluk's goal came after the Wheat Kings had let a 4-2, third period lead slip away for the second straight game but unlike Saturday's overtime loss to Prince Albert, Brandon showed more resilency in battling back and picked up two points.

One benefit this time around for Brandon was the Pats tied the game prior to the mid-period marketing timeout, which allowed the Wheat Kings to refocus and regroup.

"I think just kind of stick to what we do best, which is getting pucks out and getting pucks in and just trying to force their D-men to work and wear them down," said Brandon forward Peter Quenneville on CKLQ's post-game show, "We struggled at times to do that tonight but, fortunately, we came away with the win."

The winning goal came after the Wheat Kings came up with a key penalty-kill, keeping the Pats at bay for a total of three minutes and 40 seconds including 42 seconds of a 5-on-3 man advantage.

"The penalty-kills late in the third period were really important for us and got us to the position where we had the late power-play and didn't capitalize on that," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "We had some shifts in the third period where we had long, sustained shifts in the offensive zone and that final shift was one of those."

Richard Nejezchleb snapped a seven-game goalless drought with his 18th goal of the season for the Wheat Kings while Peter Quenneville, Rihards Bukarts and Jesse Gabrielle also scored for Brandon.

John Quennville extended his point streak to five games by contributing three assists to Brandon's cause.

The victory allowed the Wheat Kings to leapfrog the Pats and move into a tie for sixth-place in the Eastern Conference.

Brandon's next game is Friday when they host the Conference-leading Swift Current Broncos.
