| Curtis Honey should get his third straight start when the Wheat Kings host Prince Albert on Friday night |
After back-to-back victories over Moose Jaw and Regina last weekend, the Wheat Kings host the East Division-leading Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night (7:35 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place) and then visit the Memorial Cup host Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.
"I think we're starting to click a little better and I think our new additions to our lineup have helped us a lot," said Brandon goaltender Curtis Honey after Thursday's practice, "It'll be good to face one of those teams North of us in the standings and see what happens."
Honey stopped 51 of 54 shots in leading the Wheat Kings to the two victories last weekend, and it marked just the second time this season that Brandon has allowed a combined three or fewer goals in two straight contests.
"I think, as a team, we were real tight defensively and we kept the shot count down and it was a good end to a bad losing streak there," said Honey, "I think we're just sticking to the systems a lot more and I think it's paying off in our shot count against."
Honey was not only in net for both of last weekend's wins, he's also been the goaltender of record in each of Brandon's last five victories.
Honey has started just 15 games this season but his strong play over the past month could earn him more net time moving forward.
The 18-year old says he'll do his best when called upon.
"Every time I go in there, I just have to stay consistent and give the team a chance to win," said Honey, "I think we're starting to get a few more goals now in the second half so if we can try to put 3-4 pucks in the net and I can try to do my job, we'll see what happens."
Honey has been particularly sharp on home-ice this season, going 3-1-1 with a 2.40 GAA and .924 SPCT in five starts at Westman Communications Group Place.

The former Brandon Wheat King is now an unrestricted free agent...former Wheat Kings' captain Keith Aulie will be on the Tampa Bay Lightning's opening night roster when it's officially submitted to the NHL office on Friday afternoon. Matt Calvert (Columbus) and, of course, Brayden Schenn (Philadelphia) are a couple of other former Wheat Kings expected to start the season in the NHL while defenceman Colby Robak was returned to the AHL by Florida on Thursday.
