Notes
- F Michal Ferland (upper body) misses his second straight game for the Brandon Wheat Kings tonight, joining D Ryley Miller (illness), F Alessio Bertaggia (Swiss Jr. Team), F John Quenneville (Team Pacific, U17) and F Tyrel Seaman (concussion) as the Wheat Kings' scratches tonight.
- F Jayce Hawryluk returns to the Brandon lineup tonight after playing with Team West at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec. Hawryluk missed the last two games of the Challenge because of a high ankle sprain so it's surprising he'll play tonight. Also, he just got off the plane from Quebec around 4 p.m. this afternoon.
- D Rene Hunter is back in the Wheat Kings' lineup but after being away from the team for the past six weeks, it would be surprising for me if he were to play significant minutes tonight.
- One tweak in the Wheat Kings' power-play tonight with be F Nick Buonassisi playing the point alongside Ryan Pulock. The Brandon power-play has struggled for much of the year, and is 5-for-49 in their last 13 games.
- Despite it being early January, the importance of tonight's game for Brandon can't be understated. A regulation loss tonight would leave them seven points behind Medicine Hat and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. That is a lot of ground to make up, particularly when you'd have to miss not only Medicine Hat but Regina and Moose Jaw as well in order to get into the post-season.
