Team West Finishes Ninth at U17's

Wheat Kings' F Jayce Hawryluk (ankle) missed his second
straight game Thursday at the World U17 Hockey Challenge
Team West finally has a win of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec.

Wheat Kings' prospect Ryley Lindgren and Wawanesa's Jordan Thomson each had an assist as Team West beat Slovakia 4-1 in Thursday's ninth-place game.

The victory broke a ten-game losing streak for Team West at the tournament.

Wheat Kings' forward Jayce Hawryluk missed his second straight game with a high ankle sprain.


Meanwhile, Team Pacific downed Ontario 7-6 in the fifth-place game on Thursday.

Wheat Kings' prospect Jordan Papirny made 30 saves in his first start of the tournament while Brandon forward John Quenneville was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game because of a groin injury.


The medal games takes place Friday with Russia playing Sweden for gold and the United States taking on Team Quebec for Bronze.

Russia beat the U.S. 6-4 and Sweden downed Quebec 6-4 in yesterday's semifinals.
