Notes
- As expected, F Michael Ferland (upper body) returns after missing three games and F Alessio Bertaggia returns to the lineup after missing ten games while playing for Switzerland at the World Junior Hockey Championship. I talked with Alessio prior to the game and will have that interview during the second intermission of tonight's broadcast.
- Brandon scratches are F Kord Pankewicz (healthy), D Riley Van Horne (healthy), F John Quenneville (lower body) and F Tyrel Seaman (concussion).
- The Wheat Kings are trying to break a four-game losing streak and are 1-5-0-0 in six games since the Christmas break, being outscored 32-16 in the process. While Brandon has beeen sliding in the second half, other teams in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference have been surging including the Kootenay Ice, who have won five in a row. In fact, if the Ice win at home against Edmonton and Brandon loses a fifth straight tonight, the Wheat Kings would fall into last place in the Eastern Conference.
- The Hitmen are beginning a stretch where they play 15 of the next 17 games on the road. Calgary is 27-10-1-3 including an impressive 13-2-0-1 on the road. They trail Edmonton by a single point for 1st-place in the Central Division and Eastern Conference.
- The Hitmen are still without Victor Rask, who is on some R & R at home after playing for Sweden in the World Junior Hockey Championship. Rask is expected to return to Calgary's lineup on January 18th.
