Official: Wheat Kings Send Nikkel to 'Tips

Brandon Wheat Kings have completed their first trade prior to Thursday's Western Hockey League trade deadline.

The exchange has Brandon dealing 17-year old defenceman Ayrton Nikkel and a conditional sixth round pick in 2015 Bantam Draft to the Everett Silvertips for 18-yaer old blueliner Nick Walters and the rights to 16-year old Elkhorn product Taylor Sanheim.

Nikkel was in his second season with the Wheat Kings have produced nine assists and nine points in 42 games this season and three goals and 19 points in 103 career games.

Walters, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-2, 200 pound product of St. Albert, Alberta who has one goal, ten points, 70 penalty minutes and a minus-19 rating in 35 games.

"I guess you could say that I'm used to it, the whole rebuild thing," said Walters, "We've been going through it now for two years here in Everett.  I think I can bring that experience part of it to the Wheat Kings and I'm just going to bring leadership and do the best I can to help the team grow."

In 145 career games, Walters has seven goals, 32 points and 217 penalty minutes.

"I'm a simple, hard-nosed defenceman.  I think I have a pretty hard shot.  I don't do a whole lot offensively, try to make a good first pass out of my zone," added Walters, "I'm not scared to stand up for my teammates and maybe change the pace to the game, I'm not scared to drop the gloves there."

Walters was a fourth round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2012 NHL Draft, 116th overall.

Sanheim is a 5-foot-10, 172 pound forward that has 22 goals and 45 points in 32 games with the Yellowhead Chiefs this season.
