First-Year Learning Experience for Gylywoychuk

  The 2012-2013 Western Hockey League regular season was not only a learning experience for Brandon's ten rookie players, it was also one for the Wheat Kings' rookie head coach.

  Dwayne Gylywoychuk said on Monday's Coaches' Corner on CKLQ that he's a better coach now than he was in September.

  "I think, for myself, I was able to go in and try some different things and work on things and I'm a better coach than I was in September," said Gylywoychuk, "I was able to learn by experience, I made mistakes but I'm going to learn from those mistakes and be a better coach when the season drops next year."

  The Wheat Kings finished with a .500 record (3-3-0-2) over their final eight games of the regular season and Gylywoychuk feels that's a stepping stone leading into 2013-2014.

  "Give credit to the guys, they pushed right through past the point where we knew there wasn't going to be a post-season for us," said Gylywoychuk, "They competed right to the end, and we were able to get some victories near the end of the season."

  Player exit interviews will dominate Gylywoychuk's time over the next couple of days and then he says they'll review the season and identify some parts they liked and parts they need to work on.
