Corbin Boes made 43 saves Friday |
Mitch Moroz also had a goal and an assist for Edmonton as they extended their winning streak to five games and clinched the Eastern Conference pennant for the second straight year.
Tim McGauley sent the game to extra time for Brandon, scoring the tying goal with 37.6 seconds left in the third period while Nick Buonassissi scored the other goal for the Wheat Kings.
"I thought our compete level was up tonight," said Brandon coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk on CKLQ's post-game show, "We still had our backs pushed against the wall a couple of times but give credit to our guys, we competed hard and kept in the game and I thought we pushed them a little bit."
Corbin Boes stopped 43 shots for the Wheat Kings including 17 in a busy second period and the Saskatoon product felt they met the challenge of facing the Conference's top team.
"I don't think we've had much success against the top teams in the Conference," said Boes, "It was our last crack against the first-place team in the East and I thought it was a pretty gutsy effort to come away with at least a point."
Boes has a 3.25 GAA and .911 SPCT in six appearance since returning from knee injury that sidelined him for more than a month.
"I just need to go out there and have fun every night and try to make a statement for the guys coming back next year," added Boes, "And, for the guys that are on their way out, just go out there and have some fun and go out with a bang in the last few games here."
The Wheat Kings have four games left in the season starting with Saturday's home game against Swift Current (7:35 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
