Yaworski Wants to Enjoy Final Week

  The final week of the Brandon Wheat Kings' 2012-2013 season also mark the final week in the Western Hockey League career of 20-year old defenceman Tyler Yaworski.

  "I think I'm just trying to enjoy every minute of it.  It's been a great four years," said Yaworski after practice on Tuesday, "There's some things you're going to miss.  You're going to miss the bus rides with the guys, you're going to miss the dressing room, things like that.  I think the most important thing right now is, like I said earlier, just enjoy it."

  Acquired by the Wheat Kings from Prince Albert last August, Yaworski has played in 224 career games in the WHL going into the final week, scoring eight goals and 45 points while accumulating 595 penalty minutes.

  I asked him what he'll remember about his only season as a member of the Wheat Kings.

  "It's obviously tough going ouot at the end of my career on not making playoffs," said Yaworski, "I know Brandon has a winning tradition here and I think there's a lot of bright spots for the next years upcoming.  There's a lot of great young players here and there should be some exciting times for Wheat Kings' fans."

  2012-2013 marks the first time in 13 years the Wheat Kings won't be involved in the post-season.

  Brandon closes out their regular season by hosting the Prince Albert Raiders tonight (7:05 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place) and when will face the Moose Jaw Warriors in a home-and-home series this Friday and Saturday.

Chaff...former Wheat King Jordan DePape will make his debut with the Red Deer Rebels on Friday against the Edmonton Oil Kings.  DePape, who spent the last three seasons with Kamloops, thought his season was over when he underwent shoulder surgery in November but found out in early January he'd be healthy enough to return to action before the end of the season.  Red Deer added him to their roster at the January 10th deadline...former Wheat King Rob Klinkhammer scored his second goal in as many games Tuesday in helping Phoenix to a 5-2 win over Los Angeles...Kootenay clinched a playoff spot for the 15th straight season Tuesday with their 3-1 victory over Lethbridge.  That also guaranteed the 'Canes will miss the post-season for the fourth straight year, the longest current futility streak in the WHL.
