Peter Quenneville had a goal and three assists for Brandon, who overcame 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 deficits at various points in the contest.
"Sure wasn't perfect. I didn't think that we played near as well as we needed to in a lot of situations through the first 40 minutes and, in the third period, I give our guys a lot of credit," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "Pretty determined effort. I thought they worried about the process and by doing so, played a much better period."
Jesse Gabrielle's goal with 4:23 left in the second period got Brandon to within a goal at 4-3 and Ryan Pulock tied the game with his 14th of the season 3:05 into the third period.
Ryan Pilon then gave the Wheat Kings their first lead of the game with a 4-on-4 goal at 10:21 with Tim McGauley then scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal on a Brandon power-play just 68 seconds after Pilon's marker.
McGauley has dished out a pair of assists in goals by Quenneville and fellow linemate Richard Nejezchleb in the contest to finish with the third three-point game of his WHL career.
"My linemates are always around the net. They're always open for pucks, both Richard and Pete are really good offensive players," said McGauley, "They're really smart in the offensive zone, they know where to go at all times so it makes my job really easy, passing it across the crease and stuff like that because they're always open. It makes my job easy when they're playing smart like that."
Jordan Papirny made 28 saves as Brandon improved to 24-17-4-0, matching their win total from all of the 2012-2013 season.
Graham Black scored twice for Swift Current with former Wheat King Geordie Maguire also scoring for the Broncos in his Swift Current debut.
The Wheat Kings will be on the road Saturday, visiting the Saskatoon Blades (6:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
