With Quenneville sidelined with an upper body injury, Lisoway moved into his regular spot between Jayce Hawryluk and Richard Nejezchleb and produced a goal and an assist in helping the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-2 victory over the Red Deer Rebels.
"I was really looking forward to play with them, once I got word," said Lisoway on CKLQ's post-game show, "It's definitely more pressure but I thought I rose to the occasion."
It was the first multi-point game of Lisoway's WHL career that included a goal and an assist while the second-year centre also finished with a +1 rating.
"I just went out there and tried my best, like always. I just tried getting a little gritty in the corners trying to support Richard and Jayce," added Lisoway, "I thought the game went pretty well for us. Once we get set down in the corners, I thought when we got the cycle going, we were very strong."
Former Rebel Chad Robinson snapped a 2-2 tie 4:30 into the third period for Brandon with Tyler Coulter and Colton Waltz also scored in the final frame for the Wheat Kings.
Brandon put 40 shots on Red Deer netminder Patrik Bartosak but used a patient offensive approach against a team that is usually strong defensively and opportunistic offensively.
"They play pretty tight in their end and I think you have to have patience and stick with it and not force passes that allow them to break out and now you're playing defence," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "Our team has talked about that a lot. That's an area of our game that has gotten better and, tonight, I think we did a pretty good job of it."
Jordan Papirny made 29 saves in the Brandon net and is now 5-and-0 with a 1.77 goals against average and .935 save percentage in his last five starts.
Evan Polei and Grayson Pawlenchuk scored Red Deer's goals in a 2:01 span late in the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit.
Boissevain product Meyer Nell assisted on Polei's goal in his first game back with Red Deer after playing with Team West at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last week.
The victory for Brandon improves them to 22-16-5-0 and leaves the Wheat Kings two points behind the first-place Swift Current Broncos in the WHL's East Division.
Brandon is also fifth in the Eastern Conference, three points behind fourth-place Medicine Hat and three head of Regina and Kootenay.
The Raiders will be in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings on Friday and Saturday night (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
