More Props for Wheat Kings' Quenneville

John Quenneville
Another kudo for Brandon Wheat Kings' centre John Quenneville.

The 17-year old was ranked 39th among all prospects in TSN's mid-season NHL draft rankings that were released on Thursday night.

It's been quite a rise for Quenneville on the draft radar.

He wasn't even listed in the initial rankings by the NHL Central Scouting Service at the start of the 2013-2014 season.

"I knew coming into the season that I had to make up a lot of ground for last year, I missed a lot of games and didn't have the season I wanted to," said Quenneville in a recent interview, "I think I've come out to a first half and little bit of the second half of the season that I've played well and I've gained a lot of confidence."

Quenneville currently leads the Wheat Kings in scoring with 21 goals and 45 points in 46 games, putting him in a tie for 40th-place in the WHL scoring race.

His placing in the TSN rankings comes ten days after he was ranked 34th among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Service's mid-term rankings.

"I think anyone that says they don't take notice is lying to you," added Quenneville, "I see it and it is a confidence booster.  It means a lot to me and it kind of feels like my hard work is paying off a bit."

Quenneville's older brother Peter was a seventh round pick of Columbus in the 2013 NHL Draft, meaning this will be the second go-round for the family.

John says being a professional hockey player is something he's thought about for a long time.

"I'm always dreaming, I have since I was a young kid," said Quenneville, "It would mean a lot to me to have those dreams come true and I'm working hard towards it."

Scouts may not be able to see Quenneville in action for a while after he left Wednesday's game in Swift Current with an upper body injury.

Brandon's next game is Saturday night when they host the Prince George Cougars.
