Brett Kitt scored both goal for the Wheat Kings, doubling his season total, while Jordan Papirny stopped 33 shots in the Brandon net.
After generating just 72 shots on goal in their previous three games combined, the Wheat Kings threw 34 shots at Kootenay netminder MacKenzie Skapski and while generating offensive chances more readily.
"The 65 minutes ahead of it remain unchanged, whether we won the shootout or didn't, so I think that's how you have to look at the game," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "I think, for the most part, we did a lot of things that we set out to do and disappointed that we didn't get the overtime win."
Extra time continues to be unkind to Brandon, who have lost eight of their 12 games that have been deciding in overtime or a shootout this season.
Kitt's performance was another positive for the Wheat Kings.
The Brandon product had been out of Wheat Kings' lineup for 11 of their previous 14 games.
"You just have to be positive all the time. It's tough not being in the lineup every night, but when I get a chance like this, I'm always looking to step up and tonight I stepped up, " said Kitt, who scored for the first time since November 29th, "Obviously it sucks that we didn't win, but it's kind of nice to get the monkey off the back."
Quintin Lisoway assisted on both Brandon goals, giving him five points in the last five games.
The Wheat Kings (28-22-6-2) are now tied with Swift Current for second-place in the WHL's East Division, one point behind the front-running Regina Pats.
The Pats edged Prince Albert 5-4 in a shootout Friday while the Broncos fell 7-3 on home ice to the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Brandon will host Kootenay again on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
