Manitoba Public Insurance has unveiled a Wheat Kings' specialty plate, which will be available beginning on Monday (February 24th).
"We've been asked ever since the first specialty licence plates came out," said Wheat Kings' owner and governor Kelly McCrimmon at a media conference Tuesday, "As its gone along with the Bombers, the Jets, Goldeyes, firefighters, Provincial Curling, more and more fans were wondering when we were going to get one."
The plate will cost 70 dollars, with 30 dollars of that fee going toward the Brandon Humane Society.
"We get no sort of municipal grants or government grants. We're solely through fundraising and the community is so supportive, along with the businesses," said Brandon Humane Society president Darren Creighton, "This just helps so much, keeps us going, keeps the lights going, helps with the animals and everything that comes with it."
The Wheat Kings' plate is the seventh specialty plate issued by the province.
"To be connected with the Wheat Kings, it's such a great organization and community supporters,"
added Creighton, "It's such a unique endeavor to have the licence plates and to be associated with that first time endeavor, we couldn't ask for anything more and we're so thankful to be involved."
Wheat Kings' fans will be able to visit any of Manitoba's more than 300 Autopac agents to purchase their plates.
