Tim McGauley had a goal and an assist on Friday and has 16 points in his last 11 games |
Richard Nejezchleb had two goals and an assist for the Wheat Kings with Jayce Hawryluk adding a goal and helpers in tying Brandon's biggest offensive output of the season.
It comes after one of the Wheat Kings least offensive outputs, a two-goal, 23 shot effort in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Medicine Hat.
"Our speed and our energy was so much different than Wednesday," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "When it was all said and done that night, I really felt like it was like that first game back after long road trip. We just didn't have any jump. I expected that our team was going to be better tonight and I thought that we were."
"It left a little sour feeling in our stomach there after we lost to Medicine Hat," added Tim McGauley, who had a goal and an assist, "So, we came into this game knowing that we really had to get this win. All the boys knew that this was a huge game for us. Everyone was focused before the game, we came out here and played our hardest and got the result we wanted."
John Quenneville had a goal and an assist in his return to the Brandon lineup after a six-game absence while Quintin Lisoway also had a goal and an assist, with Eric Roy and Jesse Gabrielle scoring the other Wheat Kings' goals.
The victory moves Brandon two points ahead of Swift Current and three points ahead of idle Regina in the race for first-place in the WHL's East Division.
"We knew this a huge game for us coming in," said McGauley, "Of course, take the lead in the standings so we came out expecting to play our hardest game and we, obviously played a great game, each and every one of us."
Brandon is idle Saturday before opening a three-game road trip by visiting Swift Current on Sunday (6:30 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
Chaff...Rihards Bukarts extended his point-scoring streak to eight games with pair of assists while Peter Quenneville also had two assists...Curtis Honey stopped 24 of 25 shots in the Wheat Kings' net...Swift Current D Bobby Zinkan could be facing a possible suspension after coming off the bench and getting involved in a fight with Wheat Kings' F Jesse Gabrielle with three minutes left in the third period. That could also result in a possible suspension for Broncos' GM/Coach Mark Lamb.
