Richard Nejezchleb scored Brandon's only goal Tuesday. |
Miles Koules had two goals and two assists to pace the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 6-1 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday night.
Anthony Ast also scored twice for Medicine Hat while Richard Nejezchleb scored the lone goal for Brandon.
The Wheat Kings found themselves down 3-1 by the first period marketing timeout, a poor start Brandon never seemed to fully recover from.
“I thought our start to the game was very poor,” said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ’s post-game show, “Very disappointed that we didn’t have more pace and work ethic to our game than we did. We had all kinds of penalty trouble, which is rarely an issue for our team. We had four penalty-kills in the first period, and were within two seconds of killing all four to stay in the game.”
The Wheat Kings had a little offensive push in the second period but were unable to score the 3-2 goal, and any thoughts of a Brandon comeback were likely extinguished when Koules’ scored his first goal with 3:38 left in the middle frame.
The loss was Brandon’s sixth in eight games and leaves the Wheat Kings still two points behind first-place Swift Current in the WHL’s East Division.
“There’s no quick solution, you have to work your way out of it,” said McCrimmon, “We have put ourselves in a spot where our team isn’t playing well, and I think we have to have a better team effort than what we’re getting and I think we have to have a better work ethic than what we’ve seen here the last few times out.”
The Wheat Kings conclude their three-game road trip by visiting the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday (7:30 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
