Brandon erupted for four unanswered second period goals after the teams were tied 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes, with the 'Canes outshooting the Wheat Kings 16-10.
One could assume that Brandon, perhaps, didn't take the 12-win Hurricanes as seriously as they should have off the bat.
"They have a dangerous team. They have a lot of guys that are skilled and off the transition they can make plays and they showed that tonight," said Hawryluk on CKLQ's post-game show, "If we stayed structured and we got pucks deep, we're a strong team and they're not very structured. After the first period, we realized that and we buckled down and played our game."
Eric Roy, Rene Hunter, Rihards Bukarts and Jens Meilleur also scored for Brandon while Ryan Pulock, Ryan Pilon and John Quenneville all contributed a pair of assists each.
Roy and Meilleur scored their 10th goals of the season, giving Brandon ten players with double-digit goals while Hawryluk became the fifth player with 20 or more goals this season on Wednesday.
"I think that bodes well for us. At playoff time, you need everybody ready to contribute and, obviously, we have a lot of work to do to get to playoffs still," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "That's an important aspect of our team and one that has become our identity a little bit in terms of balanced offence."
Curtis Honey made 36 saves in the Brandon net, with Carter Folk and Tyler Wong scoring the goals for Lethbridge.
The victory allows Brandon to remain in seventh-place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind sixth-place Swift Current, four points ahead of eighth-place Red Deer and five points ahead of ninth-place Prince Albert.
The Wheat Kings hit the road for a pair of games this weekend, visiting Saskatoon on Saturday and Swift Current on Sunday.
