The Wheat Kings have a three games to none lead in the Best-of-Seven Eastern Conference Quarter-Final, but will be without Jayce Hawryluk for Game Four after he was hospitalized after Game Three Wednesday, complaining of shortness of breath and lightheadedness.
"Obviously, we're going to rally around it," said Brandon centre John Quenneville after practice Thursday, "Jayce is one of our best players and he means a lot to our team, not only on the ice but in the dressing room; he's a great guy. We're
obviously pretty shaken up about the situation, but we're going to use it and play well for him."
It's not the first time the Wheat Kings have been without a key player in the series as defenceman Eric Roy and forward Peter Quenneville both missed Game Two, an 8-4 Brandon victory.
"I think we've had guys do a great job stepping up during injury situations," added Quenneville, "It's do-or-die hockey. I think we've done a really good job of doing whatever it takes to win."
Quenneville and the Wheat Kings are expecting to face a desperate Pats' team on Friday, and should expect Regina's best effort of the series.
The second-year centre says they'll need to match that desperation and effort in order to be successful.
"I know Regina's in a do-or-die situation and if we come with that same attitude, we'll be fine," said Quenneville, "We have them down right now and we have to keep them down. We've been playing some good hockey and if we build on that, we'll be fine."
Meanwhile, the Pats spent Thursday at CFB Shilo, a base about 30 kilometres East of Brandon.
The team practiced at the Gunner Arena and also spent some time talking with soldiers and checking out weapons and equipment on the base.
The Pats are named after the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry, whose second battalion is stationed at CFB Shilo.
