Wheat Kings Pull Out Dramatic Win

Peter Quenneville scored the game-tying goal with 35.3 seconds left in the third period and Eric Roy scored a power-play goal 2:18 into overtime as the Wheat Kings downed the Regina Pats 4-3.

The Wheat Kings fell behind 3-1 in the first period with the Pats getting an even strength goal from Dryden Hunt to open the scoring, and then getting a pair of power-play goals from Dmitry Sinitsyn and Connor Gay sandwiched around a Peter Quenneville goal for Brandon.

Richard Nejezchbleb scored a power-play goal 6:47 into the second period to get the Wheat Kings to within one, setting the stage for the late-game equalizer.

"It was a battle, it was competitive game.  I thought our guys, outside of a couple of penalties early, I thought was had prepared pretty well in terms of having perseverance and resilience regardless of what happened here tonight we just had to keep playing," said Wheat Kings' GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "I thought our players deserved a lot of credit for that."

It was a rare case where both teams got what they wanted.

Regina clinched the East Division pennant with the 'loser' point while Brandon moved into sole possession of seventh-place, two points ahead of Prince Albert and Red Deer.

The Wheat Kings can do no worse than a tiebreaker game for eighth-place and could clinch a playoff spot with a victory or an overtime or shootout loss in their final regular season game on Saturday night.

The Brandon Wheat Kings gave themselves a big boost in their quest for a playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference on Friday night.
