Notes
- Brandon scratches on opening night are D Ryan Pulock (still with NY Islanders), D Nick Walters (knuckle), D Taylor Green (upper body), D Riley Van Horne (healthy), F Jesse Gabrielle (healthy), F Tyler Coulter (healthy), F Duncan Campbell (healthy) and F Brett Kitt (healthy).
- The Wheat Kings open their regular season on the road for the third time in five years. The club beat Moose Jaw 4-1 in the first ever regular season game on Mosaic Place two years ago (to open the 2011-12 campaign) and lost in Prince Albert 6-1 to open the 2009-2010 campaign. That loss to the Raiders is the only one for Brandon on opening night in the last 13 years.
- Six first-year players will be in Brandon's lineup for tonight's contest but only three will be making the WHL regular season debuts in import forward Rihards Bukarts, 15-year old Kale Clague and 17-year old blueliner Dominic Thom. Braylon Shmyr, Ryley Lindgren and Jordan Papirny all played with the Wheat Kings at some point a year ago.
- Made the comment on twitter earlier today that it marks a first for me tonight. It's the first time a Wheat Kings' player will be the son of a former WHLer who played in the league while I was also broadcasting games. That, of course, is Kale Clague. Dad Jason was a goaltender with Regina and Red Deer from 1991 to 1994. Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon also said it's the first time he's had a 15-year old in the lineup on opening night.
