Ryley Lindgren is one of 11 rookie forwards remaining on the Wheat Kings' pre-season roster |
The club released nine players after Sunday's intrasquad game, including 2012 second round pick Tanner Browne, but still have a whopping 35 players remaining on their pre-season roster including 22 forwards.
Among those sticking around for the start of practice sessions this week are 15-year olds Nolan Patrick, Kale Clague and Tanner Kaspick.
They are the Wheat Kings' top three picks in the 2013 Bantam Draft but aren't eligible to play in the Western Hockey League on a full-time basis this season.
The club also has nine 17-year old forwards on the roster including late training camp edition Duncan Campbell of Brandon.
Campbell was released by the Red Deer Rebels after their intrasquad game on Thursday and was skating in Wheat Kings' camp by Friday.
11 defencemen remain with 17-year olds Riley Van Horne and Dominic Thom and 16-year old Mark Matsuba joining Clague and the seven returning WHL vets on the blueline.
The only position that seems cut and dried at this point is in goal, where 19-year old Curtis Honey and 17-year old rookie Jordan Papirny are the only two netminders left on the roster.
