Notes
- News late this afternoon that Wheat Kings' captain Ryan Pulock had signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders. Pulock was the Islanders' first round pick (15th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft. Terms weren't announced although based on other signings of 2013 first round picks this year, signing bonus was probably in the $275,000 - $300,000 range with a base salary of $925,000 - $950,000.
- Pulock's signing probably doesn't change a lot about his status with the Islanders for this season, although it was something they needed to do in order to keep him on the roster once the regular season starts. I still expect Pulock to be returned to the Wheat Kings before the NHL season starts, possibly as early as Sunday night or Monday. That's when NHL teams have to submit their 23-player rosters for salary cap purposes.
- Brandon scratches tonight are Pulock (NY Islanders), D Riley Van Horne (healthy), F Jesse Gabrielle (healthy), F Braylon Shmyr (healthy) F Brett Kitt (healthy) and D Dominic Thom (healthy). F Tyler Coulter will make his season debut for the Wheat Kings tonight.
- Caught up with Brandon product Carson Perreaux prior to tonight's game to talk about last night's hat-trick. That interview on our 880, CKLQ pre-game show. Neat thing, though, is that Carson's parents are in Prince Albert this weekend and were on hand to see him notch his first career WHL hat-trick. Carson said he gave his dad the game puck after last night's contest.
- After this weekend doubleheader in Prince Albert, Brandon heads home for five straight at WCGP starting with Wednesday's game against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
