Kale Clague had a goal and two assists to pace the Wheat Kings offensively, with all three of those points coming on Brandon power-play chances.
The 15-year old Clague, who is ineligible to play in the WHL on a full-time basis this season, finishes the pre-season with two goals and five points in four games.
"He is so good on the offensive blueline. He made just great plays. The goal he scored, he doesn't just drop his head and pound it, he's looking, he places the puck," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "He just a tremendous talent on the blueline, and that offensvie blueline is where he does his best work."
Jordan Papirny stopped 45 shots in the Wheat Kings' net while John Quenneville, Richard Nejezchleb and Ryley Lindgren all had a goal and an assist each for Brandon.
Jens Meilleur and Jack Palmer, into an empty-net, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who finish the pre-season with a 3-1-0-0 record.
"I think guys should feel good about having a 3-and-1 pre-season record but, at the same time, you can't overlook the work we have to do because there's a lot of areas we've got to get better," said McCrimmon, "We did accomplish some things through the pre-season portion of the schedule and now we'll regroup and get focused on the week ahead."
The Wheat Kings will open the WHL regular season Friday by visiting Moose Jaw before hosting the Warriors in their home opener next Saturday.
Chaff...Rihards Bukarts had an assist Saturday and finishes the pre-season as the Wheat Kings' top scorer with two goals and seven points in four games...the Wheat Kings had gone 1-3-0-0 in the pre-season in each of the last two seasons...among the referees for Saturday's contest was Chris Schlenker, who had a four-year career in the WHL with Regina and Prince Albert from 2001 to 2005.
