Nolan Patrick, Ryley Lindgren and Taylor Sanheim did the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who trailed 1-0 and 4-1 at the period breaks.
"I thought the second period was a little sloppy but when we got to the third period, the boys figured out what to do," said Patrick on CKLQ's post-game show, "Get the puck on this goalie and things showed on the scoreboard. We didn't get all the back like we wanted to, but I thought we weren't too bad in the third."
The Wheat Kings outshot the Warriors 15-5 over the final 20 minutes and 38-27 overall, with rookie Jordan Papirny going the distance in the Brandon net and stopping 23 shots.
"It was a good chance to look at a lot of players. It was a competitive game, with our guys coming back in the third, it made a real good opportunity to see players in those situations," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, who's team dressed 13 first-year players for the contest, "Given the fact it was close and it was competitive, it was a good chance to watch our guys."
Patrick was one of three 1998-born players to make their unofficial Wheat Kings' debuts Friday night, joining fellow 2013 draft picks Kale Clague and Tanner Kaspick.
"I felt I did pretty good today," said Patrick, "Just move forward from here and keep playing my game."
Torrin White had a goal and two assists to pace Moose Jaw's offence with Bryson Gore, Kirk Johnson and Josh Uhrich also scoring for the Warriors.
The teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon in Moose Jaw (2:30 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
Chaff...the Warriors dressed Oakbank, Manitoba product Brett Howden, the fifth overall pick in the 2013 Bantam Draft...Brandon product Tyson Verhelt stopped all 12 shots he faced in 31 minutes of action, helping Spokane beat 5-1 at the Tri-City pre-season tournament.
