Shmyr has one goal and two points in nine games during this rookie season with the Wheat Kings.
"One of my goals was to make that team. I just worked hard every practice and my hard work paid off," said Shmyr on Thursday, "Every time I'm out there, I just try to give it 100 per cent. Just try to stay positive with the ice-time I'm getting and just go out there and do my best."
Team West's roster is expected to be named on Friday.
The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will take place from December 29th to January 4th in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Meanwhile, Wheat Kings' forwards Jayce Hawryluk and John Quenneville were among the 38 WHLers identified by the NHL Central Scouting Service on its latest 'watch list.'
Hawryluk is listed in the 'B' category while Quenneville is in the 'C' category.
A 'B' rating indicates a 2nd/3rd round candidate, a 'C' rating indicates a 4th/5th/6th round candidate.
Hawryluk was also ranked 50th by TSN's Craig Button is his latest rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft.
