Wheat Kings Win Third Straight

Ryan Pulock had a goal and two assists in Brandon's
6-2 win over Saskatoon on Friday night
The Brandon Wheat Kings stretched their winning streak to a season-high three games Friday night with a 6-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades.

Tim McGauley scored twice and Ryan Pulock had a goal and two assists for the Wheat Kings, who outshot Saskatoon 50-19 in the contest.

"That's a function of the defence getting back for pucks hard, forwards being available and in position," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "The game is a lot easier when you help each other get the puck moving."

Brandon scored twice on the power-play for the fourth straight game and are now 11-for-30 (36.7%) with the man advantage over the last seven games and fifth overall in the WHL with a 24.3% success rate.

"Getting Peter Quenneville here has brought a lot to our power-play.  It's given us two solid units, and both units can score so I think that's a big part of it," said Pulock, who scored his team-leading seventh power-play goal Friday, "I think we've simplified it a bit, just get pucks on net and there's rebound opportunities.  You're going to get chances if you can get the puck to the net and I think that's what we've been doing here."

Peter Quenneville also scored a power-play goal and added an assist while Ryley Lindgren also had a goal and an assist and Braylon Shmyr had the other Brandon goal.

What a difference a week makes for the Wheat Kings, who were 9-11-0-0 after a 6-3 loss to Swift Current last Friday but managed to put together three straight wins over the span of five days while scoring 16 goals in the process.

"It's huge for our club.  When you get winning a few games in row, you start building momentum and you gain a lot of confidence and I think that's what our team needs right now," said Pulock, "I think this was a huge win for us going into our road trip here."

Brandon is idle until Tuesday when they'll open a four-game road trip by visiting the East Division leading Swift Current Broncos.
