The Wheat Kings rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring four goals in a three minute and 36 second span early in the second period and went on to a fifth straight victory over their East Division rivals this season.
“We started pressuring their defence more than we had in the first period and that seemed to really force mistakes by their back end, and I thought our guys were really good around the net,” said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ’s post-game show, “We had some chances, we got shots, we made some plays and our power-play scored for us.”
John Quenneville paced the Wheat Kings offensively with a career-high five points on two goals and three assists while Jayce Hawryluk added two goals and two helpers.
The Wheat Kings finished 4-for-8 with the man advantage after going just 1-for-12 on the power-play during a four-game road trip last week.
“For me, you have to establish your point shot on the power-play and I think that when you do that, plays down at the bottom will open up,” said McCrimmon, “Our guys did a good job with traffic tonight. When you look at the way we scored our power-play goals, it was good net-front presence.”
Eric Roy had a goal and two assists for Brandon with Ryan Pulock, Tyler Coulter and Brett Kitt also scoring for the Wheat Kings.
For Coulter, it was his first career WHL goal.
The victory improved the Wheat Kings to 14-13-1-0 on the season.
Brandon returns home to face the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
