Honey Battle on Hold?

  The battle for Honey family supremacy may have to wait.

  Twin brothers Curtis Honey of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Connor Honey of the Seattle Thunderbirds could meet for the second time in their WHL careers on Tuesday night (8:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ), but an upper body injury that has sidelined Connor for the last eight games could scuttle the matchup.

  Curtis is about 20 minutes older than his fraternal twin, which begs the question – isn’t usually the little brother that ends up having to be the goaltender?

  “We were always on the same line, playing at the top level, until second year Pee Wee.  For the longest time, I wanted to be a goalie and my dad made a deal with me that I could tryout as a player and a goalie for the Pee Wee One team and if you make it in net, I could be a goalie because he didn’t want to go to separate rinks,” said Curtis after Monday’s practice at the ShoWare Center, “That’s how I ended up being a goalie.”

  The Honey’s paths to the Western Hockey League intersected on December 8, 2011.

  On that day, the T-Birds announced the Connor would be joining the team after spending the first part of the 2011-2012 campaign with Green Bay of the USHL while later that same day, Wheat Kings’ goaltender Corbin Boes broke his hand during a game in Edmonton.

  That would lead the Wheat Kings to recall Curtis from the AJHL’s Bonnyville Pontiacs and the Edmonton product spending the rest of the 2011-2012 season in Brandon.

  Now, the two have been on opposite ends of the Western Hockey League for over 22 months, and have been able to share each other’s experiences.

  “We compare all the time.  In the summertime, he’ll throw something out there and I’ll throw something out there,” said Curtis Honey, “I think he’s got a pretty good feel for what it’s like to be a Brandon Wheat Kings and I think I’ve got a pretty good feel of what it’s like to be a Seattle Thunderbird.”

  Curtis got the better of the Honey boys’ matchup a year ago, stopping 38 shots in Brandon’s 5-3 home-ice victory on November 6, 2012.

  Connor was held pointless in that contest.

Chaff...F Tim McGauley (upper body) sat out Monday’s Wheat Kings’ practice and is doubtful to play on Tuesday night... Brandon has not been below .500 this season, and have not lost more than two straight games this year…a league high seven Wheat Kings’ prospects will play in the Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup this week.  Forwards Nolan Patrick, Tanner Kaspick, Ty Lewis, Dylan Thiessen and Linden McCorrister will play for Team Manitoba while defencemen Kale Clague and T.J. Brown will both play with Team Alberta.  The event runs from October 31 – November 3 in Calgary, Alberta…Moose Jaw acquired Winnipeg product Reid Zalitach, 17, from the Vancouver Giants Monday for a fourth round pick in the 2015 Bantam Draft and a third round pick in 2016...Everett’s Josh Winquist was named the WHL Player of the Week Monday.
