Nejezchleb Off to Hot Start

  It's been a good start to the season for Brandon Wheat Kings' import Richard Nejezchleb.

  The 19-year old has goals in all three games he's played, and leads all Brandon forwards in scoring with three goals and five points.

  "Last year, it took me quite a bit of time to adjust here but, now, I know the guys, I know the rinks and I've adjusted to the smaller ice," said Nejezchleb after Tuesday's practice, "I like the Canadian style of hockey...it's way better than last year."

  The 6-foot-2, 210 pound Czech Republic import has been playing on a line with Latvian Rihards Bukarts and Saskatchewan product Tim McGauley so far this season.

  It's a interesting combination considering their roots, but Nejezchleb says communication hasn't been an issue.

  "Bukarts is doing pretty good for his first year and Tim was my linemate for a good part of last season," said Nejezchleb, "I think we have some good chemistry going on."

  Brandon opens a five-game home stand Wednesday night as they entertain the Edmonton Oil Kings (7:00 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

  The Wheat Kings will be trying to nip a two-game losing streak, although one could argue the team deserved a better fate their last time out -- a 4-2 loss in Prince Albert on Saturday night.

  "Good teams don't lose back-to-back.  I thought we performed well on Saturday, we probably deserved points," said assistant coach David Anning Tuesday, "It didn't happen for us and now it's up to us to get back on track here, especially on home ice playing a quality hockey club.

  The return of captain Ryan Pulock meant the Wheat Kings had their first full squad practice of the season on Tuesday, with the club not reporting any injuries heading into Wednesday's matchup against Edmonton.

  Meanwhile, the Oil Kings could have a new face in their lineup for the contest in Brandon.

  Edmonton acquired 20-year old forward Reid Petryk from the Everett Silvertips on Tuesday for a third round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft and a sixth round selection in 2015.

  Petryk had 16 goals and 40 points in 70 games with the Silvertips last season and was pointless in the only game he played this year.

Chaff...The Oil Kings practised in front of 150 kids at the Riverdale Community Centre in Rivers on Tuesday and held an autograph session.  Edmonton head coach Derek Laxdal has held a hockey camp in Rivers the past two summers...on Sunday, Wheat Kings' captain Ryan Pulock and Edmonton captain Curtis Lazar went head-to-head in an NHL pre-season game, with Pulock's Islanders beating Lazar's Senators 4-1.  The two will make their season debuts for their respective WHL teams on Wednesday.
