| Ryan Pulock made a succesful season debut with the Wheat Kings on Wednesday |
The Wheat Kings' captain had two goals and two assists to pace Brandon to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday night.
Pulock was returned to the Wheat Kings by the New York Islanders on Monday after the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft spent nearly a month in the NHL.
The Grandview, Manitoba product knew he needed the right mind-set going into Wednesday's game.
"Obviously, I understood being sent back. It's a great opportunity for me to come back and get better, play a lot of minutes and work on my game," said Pulock on CKLQ's post-game show, "I think that was the biggest thing was taking the positives out of it and came back here. Tonight went well for me and, hopefully, I can keep that going throughout the whole season."
All four of Brandon's goals Wednesday were power-play goals, and all four came as a part of a wild seven-goal second period where all seven of the game's goals were scored.
"I think we moved pucks pretty well, along the half-wall and even up at the blueline going D-to-D," said Pulock,,"I think the biggest thing was I was able to get some shots away. We had a really good net-front presence on all those shots. I didn't think the goalie saw a lot of those so I have give credit to those forwards standings in front there."
Jayce Hawryluk and Tim McGauley also scored goals for Brandon in a wild game that included goalless first and third periods and Edmonton's Mitchell Moroz bringing the Oil Kings back from a 3-0 deficit with a natural hat-trick in a 2:32 span of the second period.
Pulock's second goal with 61 seconds left in the second period snapped a 3-3 tie and Curtis Honey made ten of his 33 saves in the third period to preserve Brandon's one-goal lead.
Rene Hunter chipped in with three assists for the Wheat Kings while seeing more ice-time than usual thanks to a first period injury to fellow blueliner Eric Roy.
"He does whatever is asked for him. The more he feels we need him, the better he plays," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon, "Tonight, I thought he was very good and I thought, in Prince Albert, he was as well."
Roy's injury is expected to be further evaluated on Thursday.
The victory snaps a two-game losing skid for Brandon and an 11-game losing streak against the Oil Kings.
The Wheat Kings had lost seven straight regular season and four playoff games against Edmonton since their last victory over the Oil Kings on October 29, 2011.
